When to use the Sorcery Spell Enchant Item
and when to use the Sorcery Spell Permanency

The best 'Chanters' are Elven wizards who put all the extra starting points into Intelligence (all intel elven wizzies) with their meditation at grand master level. This will be what is called a '189 wizzie'.


Enchant Item, [sorcery] at the cost of 1000 mana per cast, is the spell that is used when you want the magic to help or affect the player. Empower, Nimbility, Cold Shield, Lightning Shield, Fire Shield, Poision Shield, Acid Shield, Missile Resistance, Regeneration, Immolation.
Chants should be cast on Rings, Amulets, Armor, Baldrics, Belts, Robes, Skirts, and Backpacks and sometimes Weapons.

Permanency, [sorcery] at the cost of 500 mana per cast, is the spell that is used when you want the magic to affect the item. Flame Blade, Cold Steel, Venom, Electric Charge, Improved Armor.
Perms should be cast on weapons (improved armor, should only be permed on armor).


The following is a list of steps for chanting, some of the steps have not been proven to be necessary, but they can not hurt.

1) Put on 2 rings of intellegence and 1 amulet of intellegence
2) Cast Dispell Magic [sorcery] on yourself AND the item to be enchanted/permed
3) Cast empower [thaumaturgy] AND nimbility [thaumaturgy] on yourself
4) eat and drink until full
5) cast indestruction [thaumaturgy] on the item to be enchanted/permed
6) Cast greater identification [thaumaturgy] on the item to be enchanted/permed
7) A) Enchant should be used with the following spells
            1) Empower (Strength)       [thaumaturgy]
            2) Nimbility (Dex)       [thaumaturgy]
            3) Shield - Acid       [thaumaturgy]
            4) Shield - Cold       [thaumaturgy]
            5) Shield - Fire       [thaumaturgy]
            6) Shield - Lightning       [thaumaturgy]
            7) Shield - Poison       [thaumaturgy]
            8) Missile Resistance       [thaumaturgy]
            9) Immolation       [elementalism]
            10) Regeneration       [thaumaturgy]
      B) Permanency should be used with the following spells
            1) Cold Steel (Ice)       [elementalism]
            2) Electric Charge (Electric)       [elementalism]
            3) Flame Blade (Fire)       [elementalism]
            4) Venom       [necromancy]
            5) Improved Armor       [sorcery]
8) 1st cast Enchant OR Permanency (depending on the outcome you want).
    Watch the Room Window Screen.
    When you see one of the following statements do the corresponding action:
      A) Ready to receive enchantment - cast the next spell, such as empower
      B) Spell did not function correctly - re-cast the enchant/permanency spell
      C) Item disintigrated - say 'ACK' and start over
